Grants, Grant, and More Grants

GRANTS

Mrs. Goodrich, Mrs. Sanders, and I have been furiously writing grants for our kiddos. And let me tell you... grant writing is no easy task. It takes hours of writing, editing, and revising before we submit them. Then we have to wait. I think that's the worst part. The waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Oh and more waiting. Although, I will say that we filled out a grant application from Wal-Mart, and they got back with us pretty quickly. Oh, and we received $1,000.00! YAY!! I know a thousand dollars isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it's a start, and I am super proud. And hey, I received the first grant I ever applied for. GO ME!  That's  not something a lot of people can say.

Our sole purpose in writing these grants is to be able to purchase a class set of Chromebooks.  Chromebooks are basically Google's version of laptops. They are small, have great battery life, are web based, and have everything you would ever need in a laptop, without the all the extras. All of that makes them GREAT for classrooms. Plus, Google has all of these AWESOME apps and programs that you can run to make class fun for the kids. They're really great... Click HERE for more information about Chromebooks in the Classroom.

We also have a Donor's Choose site up. I'll get you the link to that later because I just made it yesterday, and it's still under review from the website admins.

Principal's Good Choices Gala

We had 33 out of 48 fifth graders that were invited to the Principal's Good Choices Gala this morning. To receive this reward, students had to have an A in citizenship, receive no office referrals, and have no more than three "no homeworks." We are super proud of out kids for this AMAZING accomplishment. Our kids are super great!

Oh, and our kids got to go outside for recess today. I know that doesn't sound very interesting, but they haven't been able to do that for a while... It's been too cold or rainy. SO.. YAY for sunshine and warmer weather.

-Mrs. Aukes

Welcome

Welcome... We, the fifth grade team at Carlisle Elementary School, want to welcome you to our blog. This blog will focus on the day-to-day happenings in and around our school. As for right now, most posts will be done by the teachers. Our hope is that we attain a classroom set of Chromebooks so that students can take over the blog. (Click on the link to our Donor's Choose site to help fund this endeavor.) Here is a quick bio of us (the teachers.)

Mrs. Aukes - Hi! I teach Literacy, and I LOVE IT! The time in my class is filled with reading and writing. In my class, I encourage students to read as much as possible. My dream is that they learn to love reading, and all the adventures that come with it.

Mrs. Goodrich - I teach Science and Social Studies. I have several pets in my classroom. One iguana named Penny, a 2 Bearded Dragons named Robert Hooke and Marvin Minsky. I enjoy reading, spending time with my children, and relaxing.

Mrs. Sanders - I also have several pets in my classroom; one Hedge Hog named Pascal, 3 rats - Annie, Agnes, and Rowdy, a Guinea Pig named LuLu, and two Betta Fish. I love teaching math, and I have 3 children who keep me extremely busy.

You will be able to find all kinds of things on our blog site, just give us a little more time to get it all set up. We hope that you visit often. Until next time.....
